Spring Break

My adamant side refused to look at Boston the same way I looked at New York. I love the vibrancy New York has. I hail from India, country that is filled with culture, amazing food, architecture and art. Although I grew up in a quiet neighborhood, it was filled with energy. I guess New York reminds me of that. When you are so far away from home, you tend to take what you are given and convert it into something that reminds you of your home. I love the fact that New York gives me hope and drives my ambition for a minute and takes it all away at the same time.

So, when the bus stopped at Boston, MA at 11:00 AM on 14/03/2022, I immediately sensed the quietness and the loss of people walking fast. I don’t think even if you throw a stone in a pond here, it will create ripples. It made me miss home. It was Karaidayan Nombu back home, the first one that I am missing. As I got down from the bus thinking of all the festivities back home, I saw my friend. “Welcome to Boston” he said walking towards me.

I spent three days in Boston. I ate, had fun and ate. And my friends made me feel at home. I had the best pasta I have had in a while. If you are ever in Boston, check out Carmelina’s. I still don’t understand why everyone likes Mike’s pastry. We saw a long queue out and got two crème brûlée that were not brûléed and was by far the worst dessert I have ever had. We decided to try out an escape room. It was based on German submarine U-2 during the World War two. So, we were basically the British officers who had to figure out all the puzzles and take the enigma codes out of the captured submarine before it sinks. We had an hour. It almost gave me a heart attack. But we did it!

So many fun things to do but my friend made me sit and listen to a Machine Learning lecture for 40 minutes at Boston university. Honestly, I don’t even listen to my own lectures.

The night before I was to leave for NY, my friend kept insisting that Boston is way better. And when asked why he goes:

“Boston is amazing cos it has a Dunkin at every corner. New York doesn’t”

To him I say:

Yeah, Boston runs on Dunkin but only till 7.
